Most Recent Affiliation(s):
- Sun Microsystems, Senior Staff Engineer
Location:
- Menlo Park, California, United States of America
Bio:
SIGGRAPH 1999
Dr. Deering has made contributions to the field of 3D graphics in both hardware and software. His early work on geometry compression included both algorithms for compressing geometry and hardware designs for real-time decompression of geometry. His other work Includes hardware rendering accelerators, 3D RAM, Java 3D, and virtual reality systems, and has authored several dozen patents in these areas.
SIGGRAPH 1998
Michael Deering is a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems where he is chief hardware graphics architect and a co-architect of the Java 3D API. He has published on computer graphics architectures, virtual reality systems, and 3D interface technologies. He is the inventor of geometry compression and co-inventor of 3D-RAM. Michael is a co-author of the book The Java 3D API Specification, published by Addison Wesley. He holds an A B and Ph D in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
SIGGRAPH 1991
Michael Deering is a senior staff engineer at Sun Microsystems and is currently the manager of the 3D Technology Group. He is the architect of the latest generation of 3D graphics hardware at Sun. He holds a BA and PhD in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley and is the author of 10 US patents in the area of graphics and imaging.
