Bio:

  • Craig S. Kaplan is an associate professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. He is interested in computer graphics applications in art, architecture, and design, and makes occasional forays into human-computer interaction and computational geometry. A native of Montreal, Craig has a bachelor’s degree in pure mathematics and computer science from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in computer science from the University of Washington. He is a member of the board of the Bridges organization, which organizes the annual Bridges conference on art and mathematics, and an associate editor of the Journal of Mathematics and the Arts. Several of Kaplan’s Islamic star patterns were displayed in the 2008 Design & Computation art exhibition at SIGGRAPH.

    Craig Kaplan is an assistant professor in the Computer Graphics Lab at the University of Waterloo. He is interested in the application of computer graphics to art and ornamental design, and in particular the use of geometry and tiling theory in graphics
