Chris Greenhalgh is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Nottingham, where he has taught and researched full- time since January 1996. He gained his PhD from the University of Nottingham in 1997; this dealt with the design, implementation and evaluation of large-scale collaborative virtual environments, i.e. shared virtual reality systems for collaboration, interaction and performance. His thesis was a winner of the UK CPHC/BCS Distinguished Dissertations in Computer Science Competition, 1998. He is the principal designer and programmer of the MASSIVE-1 and MASSIVE-2 shared virtual environment systems. He is also an architect of the Spatial Model of Interaction, a sociologically-informed computational model of interaction and communication in spatial environments. His current research concerns shared virtual environments, in particular aspects of network requirements, quality of service, persistence, scalability and consistency peculiar to shared interactive environments.
