Dennis Proffitt received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1976. After three years at Wesleyan University, he moved to the University of Virginia where he is now Professor of Psychology and of Biomedical Engineering. Proffitt’s research has been focused on issues related to the visual perception of space. Since 1985, Proffitt has maintained a research collaboration with scientists at the NASA- Ames research center and has, thereby, observed the development of their VIEW virtual reality (VR) system. More recently, he has collaborated with Randy Pausch, Director of the Virginia VR laboratory, on vision research using interactive head mounted displays.
