Abstract:
Virtual reality is supposed to provide a strong illusion of being and acting in a simulated “other place.” Is this realizable? What is required to enable someone to be “present” in a virtual scenario? To what extent can this degree of presence be measured, if it exists at all? How does it relate to performance? Does any of this matter anyway to application builders or users? A multidisciplinary panel addressed these and related issues.
