Chuck Hansen is project leader for scientific visualization in the Advanced Computing Laboratory (ACL) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is responsible for the scientific visualization component of the Grand Challenge Computational “Environment (GRACCE) for the DOE high Performance Computing Research Center at the ACL. GRACCE attempts to build an environment unique to the solution of grand challenge science by weaving massively parallel computers, high-speed networks, visualization, and software tools into an integral fabric. You can find out about this at: http://www.ad.Janl.gov Chuck Hansen has extensive experience in the field of scientific visualization particularly as it applies to very large scale computational environments. While at INRIA, he developed a real-time trinocular stereo system for mobile robot navigation. His research materials include scientific visualization, 30 shape representation and geometry, and computer vision. He has published numerous articles in the fields of computer vision and scientific visualization. Dr. Hansen has organized and participated in short courses and workshops on computer graphics and scientific visualization. Dr. Hansen received his BS from Memphis State University in 1981 . He received a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Utah in 1987. He was a Bourse de Chateaubriand PostDoc Fellow at INRIA, Rocquencourt France, in 1987 and 1988. He was a visiting faculty member at the University of Utah prior to joining the LANL technical staff. In addition to his duties at LANL, he serves as a research faculty member at the University of New Mexico and an adjunct faculty member at New Mexico Tech.
