    Publishing or Programming? A Framework for the Development and Presentation of Work by Children on the World Wide Web

Session/Category Title: Web and Multimedia Design

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    The metaphor of publishing for worldwide audiences lends itself to the development of a typology for evaluation of children’s and schools’ Web sites. The typology offers an analysis of the dominant modes currently being produced on schools’ and children’s Web sites, as illustrated by current examples. The author presents a set of principles for evaluation of Web page elements that are used to exhibit technology as an end in itself and those elements that use technology to facilitate communication.
