Abstract:

We derive new BSDFs for microsurfaces with height-dependent normal distribution functions (NDF) and material properties. By extending microfacet theory to accommodate asymmetric surfaces, such as eroded materials, we offer artists novel, physically based methods to manipulate the grazing-angle appearance of rough surfaces without altering their overall visual characteristics.
