Abstract:

‘Magnetosphere’ is an interactive work of art that provides novel tactile sensations using a specially made textured display where the hardness of the screen itself changes (Fig. 1). By providing a tactile display where the screen is specially made by using electromagnets to control miniature steel balls into soft expressions, this technology constitutes a new development in the fields of display technology and artistic expression. The aim of this development is to experiment with the depiction of video images together with actual tactile sensations.
