Additional Information:

This panel provides an overview of the market for computer graphics in the Japanese printing industry, discusses system and application trends including implications for computer aided publishing (CAP), and presents recent examples of both commercial and artistic print output. Particular attention is paid to some of the fundamental problems facing vendors and users in Japan, including:
    • Need for very high resolution fonts containing thousands of characters (Kanji), simultaneous access to multiple fonts and horizontal/vertical writing.
    • User interface design for technicians and artists with limited English language abilities, limited computer experience and limited familiarity with keyboards of any type.
    • Development and utilization of more compact, less expensive systems.
