Bio:

  • Savannah Niles is a designer in Miami, FL. She’s interested in technologies that live quietly and meaningfully between the solid world and a softer one.

Savannah currently works at Magic Leap as a designer and product strategist, leading cross-functional teams to develop new paradigms for interaction, communication, and collaboration for a spatial computing operating system, the Lumin OS. She leads Social Suite, a suite of features that support multi-user experiences across the platform, including Avatar Chat.

She graduated in 2015 from the Media Lab at MIT, where she received full funding in Dr. Andy Lippman’s Viral Spaces group. While there, she researched mobile diagnostics, maternal health technology, and GIFs in visual journalism. She developed her master’s thesis on techniques for visually manipulating video for integration onto wearable devices, ambient displays, and interfaces accessed by users with divided attention.

Previously, Savannah developed work with Beak Labs for Samsung Mobile and Twitter at SXSW, and she was a software development intern with Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development in Los Angeles. Her work has shown at the Austin Museum of Art’s Arthouse, 500X, and Gray Matters. She was a participant in the Dallas Pavilion Project published in conjunction with the 2013 Venice Biennale. Savannah has worked with middle school students as a teacher at Breakthrough Collaborative in Austin and as a tutor with the West Dallas Community Centers. Savannah graduated summa cum laude from SMU in May 2013 with degrees in sculpture and creative computation.
