Title:

    Robust automatic optic disk segmentation

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness. The primary means of diagnosis is by subjective classification of the optic disc using the ophthalmoscope or stereo photographs. General purpose  edge detection algorithms failed to segment the optic nerve head due to fuzzy boundaries, inconsistent image contrast or missing image features. We present a new architecture for automatic localization and segmentation of the optic nerve head in low resolution images. No human intervention is needed. Two novel algorithms are presented in automatic Optic Disk localization and initial boundary determination. The final contour is obtained by fast marching, a geometry based model, exploiting regional and gradient information.
