Abstract:

The growth of the Internet has been fueled by millions of Web pages that primarily contain HTML-based text and simple graphic images. As the capabilities of Web browsers are enhanced, more and more information is being added to these pages in the form of rich media. Initially, the enhanced content was mostly more complex graphics or animations (for example, animated GIF files), but changes are underway as new rich media formats emerge. Is this abundance of rich media a benefit or an annoyance? This panel discussed the technology of rich media and how it will change the Web (for better or worse).
