Abstract:

    Prerequisites
College algebra and plane geometry are useful. Some programming experience or experience in using BÍzier, B-Spline or NURBS packages is useful.

    Topics
The genesis of NURBS (BÍzier and nonrational B-spline curves and surfaces lead to a discussion of NURBS, including knot vectors, basis functions, homogeneous weighting functions, and their effects on NURBS curves and surfaces). Degree elevation and reduction, knot removal, and subdivision.

    Description
An engineering approach (just enough mathematics to get the job done) to a working knowledge of the underlying mathematics of NURBS. The emphasis is on understanding the effects that the underlying mathematics have on the shape and characteristics of NURBS curves and surfaces.
