Title:

Hair animation and styling based on 3D range scanning data

Abstract:

This paper describes an approach for designing 3DCG hairstyles with special features based on actual hairstyles [1] [2]. Hairstyles play an important role in expressing a character. However designing sophisticated hairstyles is time-consuming and it is difficult to controle the resulting hair motion. Thus we have decided to focus on modeling hairstyles based on pre-existing examples. With our approach, the 3DCG hairstyle is created automatically using non-contact type 3D range scanner, and the designed hairstyle is animated using a physics based simulation.
