    Frontiers Talk: Visual Computing After the Victory of Data

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    For most of its existence, Computer Science has been primarily focused on algorithms, with data treated largely as an afterthought. Only recently, with the advances in AI, did our field start to truly appreciate the singularly crucial role played but data. In this talk, I will begin by tracing a partial history of data and its importance in visual computing as well as in human visual perception. I will then discuss self-supervised learning as a way to capture the enormous power of data without having to resort to human labels.
