Abstract:
Methods of font representation for typography on display screens and printers such as Metafont, PostScript and lkarus will be presented. Issues to be discussed include: the form of representation, transformation, data compaction, processing speed, software and hardware implementation, device independence, interchange standards, output legibility and aesthetics.
