This animated interactive information system describes computing resources at New Mexico State University and provides access to 0nline databases and bulletin boards. Major challenges in the design of this system included structuring chaotic information, automating access to unique systems, and anticipating multi-user revision of volatile information.
The solution was hypermedia. Stacks can be navigated using a question-answer mode. The user has access to a large amorphous body of information without feeling the size or chaos. Hypermedia also allowed custom connections to networks and bulletin boards to be automated from a single consistent graphic interface. Animation allowed the presentation of an overview of computing resources. While the stack needs revision, it is a significant improvement over printed documentation.
