Artist Statement:

The design concept is a balance of three requirements: reflect the traditions of Islamic vernacular architecture, create a building with multiple functions and internal villages, and provide an intelligent response to a hot, humid climate. The layering of these factors creates the building’s character. The Tower adapts the vernacular mushrabiyah screen to create comfortable internal conditions with minimal energy consumption. The resulting screen provides the proper level of light and reduction of heat gain, which is appropriate for the variety of internal program conditions, all within a vernacular textural framework that references the rich history of Islamic geometry.
