Description:
Development of the standard for digital-cinema colorimetry presents the problem of how to represent color in a manner that will accom-modate future developments in display technology. Unfortunately, RGB coordinates tied to a physical display device are not ideal, as they intrinsically limit the gamut to only a fraction of colors visible in the real world. Thus, the solution is to use the 1931 CIE XYZ primar-ies, which allow for positive-valued specification of all visible colors.
