SIGGRAPH Asia 2021

Nils is an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He focuses on physics-based animation and deep-learning methods for physical systems. He obtained a Ph.D. for his work on liquid simulations in 2006 from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Until 2010 he was a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich. Nils received a tech-Oscar in 2013 for his research on controllable smoke effects. Before joining TUM in 2013, he was lead at ScanlineVFX. Currently, he is especially interested in how to achieve tight and seamless integrations of learning algorithms with numerical methods, e.g. via differentiable physics simulations.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2018

Nils Thuerey is an Associate-Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He works in the field of computer graphics, with a particular emphasis on physics simulations and deep learning algorithms. After studying computer science, Nils Thuerey acquired a PhD on liquid simulations in 2006 (both at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg). Until 2010 he held a position as a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich. He received a tech-Oscar from the AMPAS in 2013 for his research on controllable smoke effects. Subsequently, he worked for three years as R&D lead at ScanlineVFX, before he started at TUM in October 2013.

SIGGRAPH 2008

Nils Thuerey is a post-doctoral researcher at the Computer Graphics Laboratory at ETH Zurich, working together with Prof. Markus Gross. In March 2007 he received his Phd (summa cum laude) in computer science from the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg. He has worked in the field of high-performance fluid simulations with free surfaces using, among others, lattice Boltzmannn methods. In addition, he has worked on the topic of real-time fluid simulations using height-field approaches, such as the shallow water equations, together with the research group of AGEIA.
