Bio

SIGGRAPH 2025

Marc Olano received his Ph.D. from UNC in 1998 for the first high-level shading language for graphics hardware, and worked at SGI on early commercial efforts toward programmable graphics hardware. He is now an associate professor in the CSEE department at UMBC. Since coming to UMBC, much of his work has focused on real-time rendering in games, including work with 2K, Activision, Big Huge Games, Epic, Firaxis, and Oxide Games. He organized SIGGRAPH courses on real-time shading from 2000–2006, was Real-Time Live chair in 2020, and was the editor in chief of the Journal of Computer Graphics Techniques from 2015–2024.
