SIGGRAPH Asia 2010
Steve Cunningham has been actively engaged in computer graphics education for many years. He has organized computer graphics education workshops developed by SIGGRAPH and Eurographics in Spain, Portugal, the UK, China, and Austria. He has given computer graphics teaching workshops at the SIGCSE conference and in Brazil, Botswana, and Mexico, and served as Chair of both the SIGGRAPH Education Committee and the Eurographics Education Board. He has authored, co-authored, or co-edited seven books, mostly on computer graphics-related topics, including a recent textbook for a beginning computer graphics course.
SIGGRAPH 2008
Steve Cunningham is a former professor of computer science at California State University, Stanislaus, Noyce Visiting Professor at Grinnnell College, and National Science Foundation Program Officer. Steve served ACM SIGGRAPH as Chair of the Education Committee, Director for Publications, and President, and served Eurographics as chair of the Education Board. Steve was Gemperle Distinguished Professor at Stanislaus, is a Eurographics Fellow, and received the SIGGRAPH Distinguished Service Award. Steve is the author of the textbook “Computer Graphics: Programming in OpenGL for Visual Communication” and co-author with Mike Bailey of the forthcoming text “Computer Graphics Shaders: Theory and Practice.”

SIGGRAPH 2004
Cunningham is a former chair of SIGGRAPH’s Education Committee, as well as ACM SIGGRAPH Chair and Past Chair. He has been a significant contributor to development of the computer graphics curricula in computer science, and led or developed computer graphics education workshops around the world. He was instrumental in creating an education directory and career handbook for computer graphics professionals. A major contributor to SIGGRAPH’s publications, Cunningham created SIGGRAPH’s first electronic publications and implemented other new publication technologies. He pioneered new publications, including the conference Visual Proceedings, and elevated smaller conference proceedings as mainstream publications.
A graduate of Drury College with a BA in mathematics, Cunningham received an MA and PhD in mathematics from the University of Oregon and MS in computer science from Oregon State University. Cunningham has served on the faculty of the University of Kansas, Birmingham-Southern College, and California State University Stanislaus. He was a Visiting Scientist at the San Diego Supercomputing Center and is currently a program director at the National Science Foundation’s Division of Undergraduate Education.
SIGGRAPH 1994
Steve Cunningham is a Professor of Computer Science at California State University Stanislaus. His professional interests focus on computer graphics education and the use of computing in communication and scientific studies. He is co-author of Programming the User Interface: Principles and Examples (Wiley, 1989, with Judith R. Brown) and co-editor of three books: Visualization in Teaching and Learning Mathematics (Mathematical Association of America, 1991, with Walter Zimmermann), Interactive Learning Through Visualization (Springer- Verlag, 1992, with R. J. Hubbold), and Computer Graphics Using Object-Oriented Programming (Wiley, 1992, with Nancy Craighill, Martin Fong, and Judith R. Brown).
Cunningham has served as chair of SIGGRAPH’s Education Committee, as chair of the SIGGRAPH 91 Educators’ Program, and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Mathematical Association of America. SIGGRAPH 1990
Steve Cunningham is professor-of computer science at California State University, Stanislaus and is former chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH education committee. He has written widely on computer graphics education and on visualization in science and mathematics education. He is particularly interested in how scientific visualization can change undergraduate computer graphics courses. He received his M.S. in computer science from Oregon State University and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Oregon.
