SIGGRAPH 2024
Adele Newton has developed and managed a broad range of programs and strategic international partnerships in the university, technology and not-for-profit sectors across Canada, within North America and in Africa, Europe and China. Her career has focussed on connecting diverse partners from technology, science and the arts to work together on exciting and innovative projects. Adele is a graduate of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
Adele served as Registration Chair for the SIGGRAPH Conference in 1984-86, was Co-Chair of SIGGRAPH 88, served on the Conference Planning Committee from 1988-91 (the CPC was the pre-cursor to the current Conference Advisory Group), and the ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Committee as Chair of the CPC from 1991-96. In this position she led the work to restructure the SIGGRAPH conference management model to more efficiently integrate professional management with the work done by volunteers, resulting in the shift to one volunteer conference chair from the co-chair model. This model is still used for both the SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia conferences.
She was Chair of the Community Outreach Committee for SIGGRAPH 98 and SIGGRAPH 2000. She was a member and then Chair of the SIGGRAPH Business Symposium for SIGGRAPH 2018 and 2019 and was a member of the SIGGRAPH 50th Conference Anniversary Committee. She also was the chair of the SIGGRAPH Communications Committee.
From 1998 – 2003 she was the founder and Co-Chair of the SIGGRAPH Toronto Professional Chapter. From 2021 -2024 she was the Chair of the SIGGRAPH Communications Committee. In 2021 – 2022 she developed and produced Graphics Chronicles, a series of recordings of conversations with SIGGRAPH pioneers Jim Blinn, Sara Bly, Marceli Wein, Mary Whitton, Dave Kasik, Ingrid Carlbom and Nick England which are currently featured on the SIGGRAPH YouTube channel.
Adele was awarded the ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Service Award in 2025.

Adele served as SIGGRAPH 88 Conference Co-Chair and member of the Executive Committee. She is currently Chair of the SIGGRAPH Communications Committee.
