  • SIGGRAPH 1999

Kwan-Liu Ma received his PhD degree in computer science from the University of Utah. He recently becomes an associate professor of computer science at University of California, Davis. Before joining UC Davis, he was a senior staff scientist at the Institute of Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE), where he conducted research in parallel visualization algorithms, visualizing large data sets, flow visualization, user interface design, and collaborative visualization.  He organized and taught a course on Texture Synthesis with Line Integral Convolution for SIGGRAPH ’97 and the course’s contribution to Creative Application Laboratory was selected as the most outstanding contribution. He also organized and taught a course on Parallel Graphics and Visualization for SIGGRAPH ’98. Both courses received a large attendance.  Kwan-Liu co-chaired the 1997 Symposium on Parallel Rendering, Case Studies for the Visualization ’98 Conferences, and a recent NSF/DOE Workshop on Large Scale Visualization and Data  Management held at Utah. This year, in addition to this course and the workshop, he also organizes a panel on Large Scale Data Visualization for SIGGRAPH ’99, and co-chair Case Studies for the Visualization ’99 Conference.

    SIGGRAPH 1997

Kwan-Liu Ma received his PhD degree in computer science from the University of Utah. He is a staff scientist at the Institute of Computer Applications in Science and Engineering and an adjunct assistant professor of computer science at Old Dominion University, where he teaches scientific visualization. He is a co-chair of the 1997 Symposium on Parallel Rendering, and also in the program committee of Visualization and Mathematics ’97. His research interests include computer graphics, scientific visualization and high performance computing. In particular, he has developed several parallel volume rendering algorithms, feature extraction algorithms, and interactive visualization techniques. Dr. Ma is a member of the IEEE, ACM, SIGGRAPH and Phi Kappa Phi.
