Bio

SIGGRAPH Asia 2025

Yasushi Ikei received his Ph.D. in Industrial Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1988. He formerly served as a Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) before his appointment as a Professor at the University of Tokyo. He currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus at TMU. His research interests include virtual reality, ultra-reality, and extended reality (XR). A significant focus of his work has been the development of user meta-experiences based on comprehensive, whole-body multisensory stimulation in passive contexts. Dr. Ikei is a member of the ACM, IEEE, and JSME, and currently serves as the President of the Virtual Reality Society of Japan.

Yasushi Ikei graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo with a PhD degree in the industrial mechanical engineering in 1988. He joined Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology in 1992. He is currently Professor at the department of computer science, Tokyo Metropolitan University. His research interests are in the virtual reality, ultra reality, telepresence, multisensory display, and cognitive engineering. He received paper awards and contribution award from the Virtual Reality Society of Japan (VRSJ). He gained innovative technologies awards from METI Japan and DCAJ in 2012,2017,2018. He is former vice president and fellow member of the VRSJ.
