SIGGRAPH 2015

Jaron Lanier popularized the term “Virtual Reality.” He founded VPL Research, Inc., which offered the first commercial VR products and the first multi-person virtual worlds and immersive avatars. He is an Interdisciplinary Scientist at Microsoft Research, working on many things, including HoloLens. Lanier has received multiple honorary degrees, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade (one of the highest literary awards in the world), a Lifetime Career Award from the IEEE for his contributions to VR, and many other honors.
