FARO Technologies’ SpaceArm digitizers are precision, six-axis, full-range-of- motion digitizers with a spherical working volume range of 48 to 96 inches. The complete line is capable of capturing the X-Y-Z and orientation of points in 3D space, which allows the end user to create complex models in five simple steps. FARO Technologies Inc., leading manufacturer of portable 3D measuring devices, demonstrates the SpaceArm, its newest and most affordable 3D digitizing system with new direct interfaces to 3D Studio and Lightwave for Amiga. Employing the latest in digital signal processing technology, the SpaceArm digitizer features a 48-inch spherical diameter digitizing volume, and has a resolution of 0.001 inches, and an accuracy of plus or minus 0.015 inches.

SIGGRAPH 1994

FARO previews its new SpaceArm 3D/6D digitizing/modeling product at SIGGRAPH 94. The first turnkey system designed exclusively for design, digital effects, and animation users, the SpaceArm is available in 36-inch and 48-inch spherical diameter digitizing volumes. Each SpaceArm system is shipped with SpaceWare software, a fast, easy, and powerful modeling software package.

The Metrecom, a “liberated CMM,” is a portable coordinate-measuring machine with a 3D-articulated arm for scanning and measuring simple to complex edges, points, surfaces, and shapes. With direct serial port input, customized software drivers, and file input, Metrecom 3D data can be used with design or quality control software packages, including AutoCAD, CADKEY, GEOMET, and others.
