Professor O’Connell has lectured and taught workshops at Melbourne University, Australia, Hokadio University, Japan, Farnam University, England, Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, Pacific NW College of Art, Portland Community College, Lane Community College, Mt. Hood Community College, Columbia Basin Community College, California Institute of the Arts, and Singapore Polytechnical College.
Aside from teaching, Professor O’Connell has made over 16 short experimental and animated films. He has also completed over 46 sketchbook/journals and has exhibited work in ceramics, photography, drawing, and watercolor. His work has been exhibited around the world at animation festivals in Japan, Zagreb, Hong Kong, Russia, and throughout the USA including New York, Dallas, TX, Ann Arbor, MI, Baltimore, MD, and Portland, OR. Currently some of his work is on display in Portland at the Portland State University and in Eugene at the Lane Community College Art Gallery.
Professor O’Connell has received numerous awards for his films and has written over 55 articles for the International Siggraph 95 Computer Graphics Conference in Los Angeles.
