Bio

SIGGRAPH 1991

David Backer has been developing interactive video systems for over eleven years. He is one of the first three graduates of the PhD program at the MIT Media Laboratory, based on his work on the “Movie Manual”, a prototype for the electronic book.

He is currently V. P. of Video Applications at Fluent Machines Inc., developers of software and hardware that enable full-motion digital video and audio in networked computers. Prior to Fluent Machines, he was Director of Videodisc Systems at Mirror Systems Inc., a subsidiary of the Times Mirror Company that developed interactive videodisc software and courseware for business applications. He has been involved with computers and graphics since 1967, and has taught computer graphics with artist Roben Mallary at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Art department. He was also a founding member of the first psychedelic light show in El Paso, Texas.
