Creating a Large-Scale Monster with Style

Session/Category Title:   Fresh Technical Art

Abstract:

The creation of the stylized, large-scale monster in the film Nimona presented a number of unique visual and technical challenges. The creature was central to the story’s emotional climax and needed to be highly emotive. The monster was portrayed on a grand scale, with highly stylized art direction and an abstract, amorphous design. The intention was to convey negative emotion using smoke-like streaming shapes. Here, we present an overview of the techniques used to bring this massive, dynamic, and highly stylized creature to life.
