Bio

Allan Rempel is a software engineer and adjunct professor with research interests in computer graphics, image processing, next-generation displays, and information visualization. After receiving his BSc from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993, he worked at Carnegie Mellon University on Allen Newell’s Soar project in artificial intelligence and cognitive science. He received his MSc in 1997 with a focus on graphics, and then worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation in Burbank and then Mainframe Entertainment in Vancouver. His screen credits include Dinosaur and Treasure Planet. He received his PhD from The University of British Columbia in 2012, and then worked for several companies in Victoria, Canada. He is a recipient of the first annual SIGGRAPH Test-of-Time Award in 2023, for the HDR-VDP-2 paper presented at SIGGRAPH 2011.
