Karl Kempf is the manager of the Robotics Research Department at McDonnell Douglas and an adjunct professor of computer science at the University of Missouri. Kempf’s interests center on the application of artificial intelligence techniques in the areas of computer-aided design and manufacture, especially robotics. Although his formal education in physics, mathematics and computer science was undertaken in American universities, much of Kempf’s applications experience has been gained in Europe including the design and implementation of intelligent robotic systems which aided in creating the Academy Award winning special effects of the Superman movies.
