Abstract:

Crowds scenes, in which multiple characters come to life to achieve a cohesive performance, present a unique set of animation challenges. While the techniques, workflows, organization and execution have all changed and evolved for more than 100 years at Walt Disney Animation Studios, the goals, the underlying principles, and the fundamentals have remained the same. We present a distillation of the essence of the art of crowds animation with examples from a wide range of Disney’s animated films.
