Abstract:
The Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) is a collaborative effort to advance open source software development for visual effects and animation in the motion picture industry. In a historically white and cis male-dominated industry, ASWF is looking to create space and opportunities for underrepresented communities in the open source VFX and animation space. This talk will provide insights into the community-based approach taken by the Foundation, the benefits of working through an open source ecosystem, and the efforts of the D&I working group to even the playing field within the industry using open source software as a unique entry point.
