Title:

A Gentle Introduction to ReSTIR: Path Reuse in Real-time

Abstract:

We motivate and gently introduce the theory behind ReSTIR, or reservoir-based spatiotemporal importance resampling. ReSTIR is a recent method to reuse and amortize light paths between pixels, allowing real-time rendering of dynamic multi-bounce lighting in complex scenes. We also discuss practical applied knowledge gleaned from recent game integrations.
