Established in 1937, the Art Directors Guild (ADG) of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE Local 800) is a labor union representing approximately 2,800 members who work throughout the world as Production Designers, Art Directors, Scenic, Title, and Graphic Artists; Set Designers and Model Makers; Illustrators, Matte and Digital Artists. These creative professionals contribute to the vision of directors, writers and producers of motion pictures, theatrical productions, commercials, and television by creating the “look of the film.” Projects would be bereft of any reality, mood or emotional fulfillment without the elements of design provided by our members. Through its alliance with the IATSE, our Guild members enjoy a wealth of benefits that include free top-tier educational classes, health coverage, generous pension, and pay scales. The ADG produces an annual awards ceremony, provides continuing education, awards scholarships, publishes a bi-monthly magazine called PERSPECTIVE, hosts movie screenings, conducts panels, facilitates year-round art shows in its gallery, Gallery 800 and access to a research library and archives.
