Pioneers: Interview Dave Kasik

Dave Kasik was Boeing’s Senior Technical Fellow in visualization and interactive techniques. He pioneered the use of visual analytics to help extract more information from complex non-geometric data, massive model visualization from complex geometric data, and advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing systems. Visual analytics supplements more traditional analytic techniques (like statistics and data mining) with a human’s ability to use vision to find anomalies and detect trends in areas as diverse as safety and marketing. Massive model visualization gives staff members visual representations of 3D models as complex as complete commercial airplanes on commodity PCs. His work in computer-aided design advanced the use of non-uniform rational b-spline geometry across multiple computer systems. He has extensive experience as a consultant both inside and outside Boeing.
