The SIGGRAPH Pioneers Reception featured Nick England and Mary Whitton giving a retrospective of their early work in North Carolina developing the IKONAS frame buffer, the world’s first general purpose graphics processing unit, and experimenting with the first helmet-mounted displays and early incarnations of Augmented Reality. Pioneers Chair Ed Kramer hosts the meeting, which also includes an “In Memoriam” video and a tribute to the Denver-based early pioneers of analog computer graphics from the 1960’s and 1970’s.
