SIGGRAPH Pioneers 2021 Featured Speaker – Dr. Donna J. Cox

Dr. Donna J. Cox is the SIGGRAPH Pioneers Featured Speaker for our virtual conference 2021. She has created a retrospective video of her extraordinary career in Scientific Visualization, which touches on many of the most influential and pioneering moments from her work, including her focus on highlighting the role of women in technology over the years. As Chief Scholar for the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Professor at the School of Art and Design (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and Director of both the Advanced Visualization Lab and the eDream Institute, Donna has – more than probably anyone on the planet – spent her career elevating the visualization of scientific data into a form of high art. Over her 36 year career, Donna has applied both scientific rigor and the aesthetics of design to create a large body of pioneering work in fields as varied as informatics, human computer interfaces, interactive installations, visualization displays, sensor-activated environments, communication devices, and networked virtual worlds.
