Abstract:


    A technique for automatically generating small consecutive contact sounds that form a sliding sound based on texture map luminance has been developed. The goal is to make use of the texture data that is already mapped to objects for visual purposes as a means to determine the characteristics of an object’s interaction sound. One of the two principle causing factors of sound is the force that is transferred between interacting objects. The force that would be applied to an object and cause it to vibrate, or output the sound, is generated from a user defined texture. The texture map produces a visual cue for the object’s material properties while simultaneously determining the audible characteristics of the object in the event of a rigid body interaction.
