Nuno Figueiredo has been Head of the Champalimaud Surgical Centre since 2015, as well as continuing his role as a colorectal surgeon. He began his career at Santa Maria Hospital, after defending his PhD at Lisbon University and becoming Lecturer of Surgery. He became a certified robotic surgeon in December 2015 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2017. In 2013, he won the Pfizer Award for Fundamental Research. Active research: International Watch Wait Database, tumor response to neoadjuvant treatment, and minimally invasive colorectal surgery.
