SIGGRAPH Asia 2023

Kunal Gupta is a Research Fellow at the University of Auckland’s Empathic Computing Lab. He is deeply passionate about using technology to enhance well-being and societal impact. His PhD research delved into understanding how virtual reality can foster emotional connections. During his master’s, he explored innovative ways to engage with augmented reality wearables. Kunal made significant strides in the industry at Google, India, focusing on user experiences, especially for the Next Billion Users Initiative. Earlier, he designed impactful products at Ducere Technologies in India, notably a project aimed at ensuring safer mobility for seniors, which was rigorously tested at John Hopkins University, USA. SIGGRAPH Asia 2021

Kunal Gupta is a Ph.D. candidate at the Empathic Computing Laboratory, University of Auckland, New Zealand, under the supervision of Prof. Mark Billinghurst. His research revolves around emotion recognition in VR using physiological and contextual information. Prior to this, he worked as a UX Researcher at Google and as UX Designer at a startup in India, for a total of around 5 years of industry experience. He obtained a master’s degree in HCI from HITLab NZ supervised by Prof Billinghurst. He conducted some of the first research into the use of eye-gaze to enhance remote collaboration in wearable AR systems.

Kunal Gupta is a Ph.D. candidate at the Empathic Computing Laboratory, The University of Auckland, New Zealand, under the supervision of Prof. Mark Billinghurst. His research topic revolves around emotion recognition and representation in VR/AR using physiological sensing and contextual information. Prior to this, he worked as a User Experience Researcher at Google Inc. (Contract) and as an Interaction Designer at a startup in India with a total of around 5 years of industry experience. He obtained his masters from HITLab NZ at Unversity of Canterbury under the supervision of Prof Mark Billinghurst in 2015.
