Abstract:

The goal of this course is to teach people how to rapidly create XR (AR/VR/MR) prototyping without programming. Over the last few years XR applications have become increasingly popular, but until recently it took a high level of technical skills to create XR applications. Now there are a wide range of tools that can be used to prototype XR applications without writing any lines of code. This course covers four main topics: (1) An introduction to the prototyping process, (2) Tools for low fidelity prototyping, (3) Tools for high level prototyping, and (4) Research directions in XR prototyping tools. Together, this content provides an ideal introduction to prototyping XR applications. In these topics, attendees will be shown a number of protottyping tools that they can use for their XR applications. The expected outcome is that attendees with learn essential prototyping skills and the confidence to use a wide range of prototyping skills to allow them to easily create XR applications. Attendees will learn about both low fidelity tools such as sketching and scene assembly, and high fidelity tools such as ShapesXR and Figma. Regardless of their background they will leave knowing how to make XR applications prototypes without needing to perform any programming.
