    Future Earth: Storytelling From Space and the Exoplanet Revolution

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    To a distant spacecraft, the richness of our home planet appears as nothing more than a fraction of a pixel. When NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft took its famous Pale Blue Dot photo in 1990, the only planets known were those in the Solar System. Since then, nearly 6,000 planets have been discovered around other stars. These exoplanets are wildly different from our own, so the hunt for another Earth is on. To find it, astrophysicists are developing the technology to directly image a habitable exoplanet. This distant pale blue dot may provide the first glimpse of life beyond Earth and answer the question of: “Are we alone?”. Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the future of the search for life in the Universe and how it’s reshaping the art and storytelling of Earth and alien worlds.
