Description:
For his long-term service to ACM SIGGRAPH and in particular to our Professional and Student Chapters, ACM SIGGRAPH recognizes Scott Lang with the 2014 Outstanding Service Award.
Scott was a college student when he joined the New York City Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH in 1986. He has been a member of their Board of Directors continuously since 1988. Scott has held all officer positions in the Chapter and has led the group’s events programming for the last ten years. From 1993 to1995 he served on ACM SIGGRAPH’s Local Groups Steering Committee, the pre-cursor to today’s Chapters Committee.
Scott was elected to the ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Committee and served as Director for Chapters from 1995 to 2000 and from 2007 to 2010. From 2010 to 2013 he was Chapters Committee Chair. In these positions he led the development of Chapters structures, guidelines, and activities — work that strengthened the Chapters program and increased its impact and value for members. Scott is still involved in the ACM SIGGRAPH Chapters Committee. Beyond Chapters, he served ACM SIGGRAPH as External Relations Committee Chair and Small Conferences Committee Chair from 2006 to 2008.
Scott has also made contributions to SIGGRAPH conferences as International Resources Chair for SIGGRAPH 2004 and as Outreach Co-Chair for SIGGRAPH 2006. Currently Scott leads the efforts of ACM SIGGRAPH’s SCOOP Team – an activity he initiated in 2004 to produce video documentation of each year’s SIGGRAPH Conference for publication on the ACM SIGGRAPH YouTube channel.
With this award, ACM SIGGRAPH celebrates both the many contributions that Scott Lang has made to the organization and the fundamental importance of the ACM SIGGRAPH Professional and Student Chapters as the yearround grass-roots foundation of ACM SIGGRAPH.
Bio:
Scott Lang is the Video / Animation Instructor at the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ. He previously worked at the United Nations International School where he served as Educational Technologist and founded the school’s Media Lab. He received his B.S. in Computer Science from the New York Institute of Technology. His primary research interest involves the integration of computer science and interactive technologies in the educational process at the high school level.
