Abstract:

Vehicle routine and dispatching is normally a dynamic process. The requirements change up to the time the vehicle is to leave on a route and in some cases new requirements occur after the vehicle has begun its trip.Rather than being a replacement for the dispatcher, the system described in this paper is a tool which the dispatcher uses to extend his capability and effectiveness. The dispatcher continues to do what he is best at, decision making in a changing evironnment, while the computer provides the data storage, the data manipulation and the visual assist of a graphics terminal. The interactive mode allows the dispatcher to use this system in a dynamic dispatching environment.
