Course Organizer(s):
Presenter(s)/Author(s):
Abstract:
Who should attend?
This course is an introductory overview aimed at engineers and other technical people, especially users and potential users of solid modeling systems who wish to understand the underlying principles of solid modeling.
Recommended background
This course will assume a basic knowledge of CAD/CAM and interactive computer graphics.
Course description
The first half of this course will be a general overview of solid modeling. This will include the rationale and general discussions of schemes for representing solid objects, construction and editing techniques that might be included in a user interface and the applications functions that are currently available. A second talk will describe some basic geometric computations that occur in many solid modelers and will explain the role of these computations in the production of graphical images. Finally, two industrial users will describe their experiences with some contemporary solid modeling systems.
