Title:

    Rendering and Visualization in Parallel Environments

Course Organizer(s):

Presenter(s)/Author(s):

Abstract:

    Prerequisites
    Because it was intended for attendees who understand the basics of 3D graphics and computer architecture, the course provided an overview of existing technology and an introduction to important concepts in parallel rendering and visualization. It was not designed for experts, so it concentrated more on concepts and less on the details of particular techniques.

    Topics
    Programming various parallel systems, parallel rendering, visualization on multi-processor computers, and networks of Intel-based computers and technical workstations.

    Description
    The continuing commoditization of the computer market has precipitated a qualitative change. Increasingly powerful processors, large memories, very large hard disks, high-speed networks, and fast 3D rendering hardware are now available without a large capital outlay. A new class of computers (personal workstations) has emerged as a platform for 3D modeling and rendering. This course explained how to understand and leverage both technical and personal workstations as components of parallel rendering systems.
