Abstract:
In this paper, we explore the challenges and innovations in designing and rigging a diverse set of non-humanoid alien characters. By breaking away from traditional bipedal forms, our team developed creatures with unconventional anatomies—such as limbless, multi-segmented, or fluid bodies—that required novel animation and rigging solutions. Through a collaborative workflow involving rapid brainstorming of ideas, visual exploration, modular rigging techniques, and procedural systems, we enabled animators to bring these characters to life while maintaining efficiency in production. Our approach balances creative ambition with technical scalability, ensuring expressive movement and emotion in uniquely structured characters.
